Watercolors by Jessie Davenport

Jessie Davenport was born in Guam, but she spent most of her childhood in Germany, where she first began painting. The art she was able to see in Europe greatly influenced her desire to become an artist. She decided in high school that she wanted to further her studies in art at Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado. It was here that she developed a love for watercolor. In 2010, she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting.

Jessie enjoys the effects she can achieve in watercolor because of the intrinsic qualities of water and paint. She enjoys knowing when to harness or control the watercolor and when to let it loose to achieve realistic effects. This knowledge comes from a familiarity with the properties of water and paint. Through an understanding of those laws she is able to discern the proper time to follow them or break them. Her subject matter varies to fit in with her current surroundings. While she loves recreating the beauty of European scenery, and the strikingly beautiful San Juan Mountain region, she also loves painting the sunny San Diego area where she now resides with her husband. Some of her artwork still shows her maiden name, Jessie Goforth. Those are the paintings completed before her marriage. Jessie enjoys working as a commissioned artist and exhibits her work at the Ago Gallery of Fine Art, but also takes much delight in the simple joy of painting and creating.
